Gdański Bridge - a 407-meter-long crossing over the Vistula River, which is an extension of Słomińskiego and Starzyńskiego Streets. The bridge was built in the years 1957 - 1959 on the pillars of the former bridge at the Citadel. The bridge consists of a road-tram and railway part.
The railway part of the bridge was the first to be built, which was rebuilt immediately after the war and put into use in 1946. Several years later, on July 31, 1959 (the holiday on July 22 was delayed), the road-tram bridge built to the south of the railway section was commissioned. In the early years, there were commercial kiosks on the bridge, which were completely bricked up during the renovation. In the years 1997 - 1998 the bridge underwent renovation, was repainted and additionally illuminated.
In the railway part, there are two railway tracks (connecting Warszawa Gdańska and Warszawa Zoo stations ) and other installations, such as a heating main. This bridge serves mainly freight and local passenger traffic. The road and tram part is part of the so-called downtown bypass, although it only serves a local role. This is due to the lack of extensive interchanges on both sides of the bridge, additionally it meets the large Starzyńskiego roundabout in Praga. It is possible that it will be used more in the future.
The road-tram bridge is two-level, the upper level consists of four road lanes and a pavement, while the lower level includes two tram tracks, a pavement and a bicycle path. Due to its architectural beauty (especially the winding stairs), it is a frequent place for photographing wedding couples. In June 2014 , a neon "It’s nice to see you" was hung on the bridge, the work awarded in the "Neon for Warsaw" competition, it was lit on June 21 . In the years 2015 - 2016, the railway part of the crossing was renovated.
In 2014, the bridge was the fifth busiest bridge in Warsaw with a result of 11% of the total bridge traffic in the city, achieving a result similar to previous years. In 2013, the bridge was the sixth busiest bridge, and the number of vehicles fell to about 45,000 (8% share), which also translated into a decrease by two places - in 2012 , the bridge was the fourth busiest bridge, and the traffic on it was 51 730 cars a day. For comparison, in 2011 it was 61,329 cars (12% share), in 2009 there were just over 60,000 (11% share), in 200338,000 cars (7.4% – it was the least frequented bridge at that time), and a similar result was achieved by the bridge in 2000 .
